Which is the best credit card for someone who is new to credit?

andrewharley89 asked:

Hi, I’m 18 as of October, and I’m wanting to work on building my credit since the only thing is my bank account since I was 12. I want to get a card with a decent APR without any large monthly (or hidden) fees. I will probably only use it as a gas card but I was wandering if some one knew which one I should get. Also I’m planning on taking a loan from my bank and pay the loan off with the same money that I borrowed, with the added intrest. If you have any other Ideas, feel free to post them. Thanks for your help.

Is this a good offer for a credit card?

UP UP AND DOWN asked:

Well it’s not really a credit card more like gas card, Chevron to be exact.

They are offering to discount 10¢ off per gallon when I buy their gas and also 1 year of free road side assistance.

No annual fees but 20% APR.

Should I accept this offer?

Best deal on a VISA gift card? (close to free if not)?

ranethelp asked:

Where can I get the best deal on a VISA gift card? So far it looks like the best is going through giftcards.com and getting a $20 gas card for it being over $100, but they are going to take $.34 for every transaction and there will be a monthly fee if not used in six months.

Do you know of anything better?

Have you ever had the experience of people being rude with you at a filling station over some free offer?

devotionalservice asked:

There is a “On the Run” Exxon filling station near my home and I somehow couldn’t keep running by there to take advantage of their free water offer. They were offering a free dasani water if you purchased a 20oz cup of coffee. They also have this card that you get punched when you purchase a coffee. So you would technically get both free water and your card punched towards a another free cup of coffee. I know I shouldn’t have pestered them by going over there so many times, but I just felt they started getting a bit on the rude side about the whole thing. They didn’t exactly say anything rude, but their attitude was far from being hospitable and friendly. I mean at first they didn’t seem to notice and seemed to have a good attitude about the whole thing, but it wasn’t long before their attitude broke down. Have you ever had a similar experience? And by the way, I do often purchase a lot of gas there with my delivery work.
I have since avoided stopping there unless it is a convenience to purchase gas. I no longer get their coffee. I am learning to make it at home or get it elsewhere. Of course, I and others need to learn as much consideration as possible when patronizing a store front and taking advantage of a free offer. It helps to consider what is going on behind the scenes. Yes, their main idea was to get new customers to try out their store. On another hand, I think it would help to have a good attitude about making a free offer in a store. Don’t make a free offer and not have a good attitude about it. Of course, there will be the certain few who may seem to be abusing the free offer. Don’t let it get to you. Maybe they will realize the error of their ways and become better customers than ever before. I mean, they have completely left themselves open for someone to come in their and take advantage of their free offer.
Why does everyone have to be thinking all this about how they really are just making this free offer to attract some new customers? Aren’t they a billion dollar franchise?

What free stuff can I expect if I vote for Obama?

tracetraining asked:

I want a bunch of free things and so I am voting for Hussein Obama. I want a free place to live, free food, free college, free doctors, free dentists, free hospital, free eye exams, free prescriptions, free Subway sandwiches, free fine dining once a month, free electricity, free car, free gas, free car insurance.

I think it would be easy if Hussein just sent me an Obama Card so I can go any where and get any thing for free. And ***** the work thing. I will not have time to work because I will be busy collecting my free stuff.

I think the nasty, filthy, horrible rich people should foot my bills. They are ******* up all the good stuff now and I don’t have a pot to *** in. They are horrible. I think I should get a direct deposit check from the rich scum…and checks from the tobacco people and from those evil oil companies that keep robbing me my rightful money. I deserve an executive salary too just like the nasty financial CEOs.

Now, what other free stuff can I expect if I vote for Obama?

can you explain about gas charging policies?

Sarah asked:

I went into a 7/11 last night — I needed gas, but also some other items, which is why I didn’t pay at the pump (as I usually do). I gave the cashier my credit card and asked her to turn on the gas on pump 6. She said ‘we can’t free flow the gas.’ I didn’t know what she meant, and asked for an explanation (there were by this time 4-5 customers waiting in line behind me). She said ‘I’m not authorized to free flow the gas. You have to pre-pay.’ I said, ‘that’s why I gave you the credit card.’ She said ‘I cant do that.’ The people behind me were getting really cross, and I didn’t understand what the problem was. She said ‘you have to tell me exactly how much gas you want to buy.’ I said, I want to fill it up, so how do I know exactly how much it’s ‘going to be?’ She said, ‘well you have to pay for it now.’ I said that when I pay at the pump, I don’t have to say in advance how much it’s going to be, so why should I have to when I pay inside? Then she said ‘aren’t you from here?
Why is it that when you pay at the pump they pre-approve it (for any amount) and when you pay inside you have to tell them exactly how much it is going to be?

US car dealer in free gun offer?

aires69uk OFFICIAL asked:

A car dealership in the United States is offering a free handgun with every vehicle sold. Max Motors in Butler, Missouri, says sales have quadrupled since the start of the offer. Customers can choose between a gun or a $250 (£125) gas card, but most so far have chosen the gun. Owner Mark Muller said: “We’re just damn glad to live in a free country where you can have a gun if you want to.”

OMG!! No wonder you all go around shooting each other!
What complete and total nonsensical, idiotic lunacy is this?

How can I get out from under this credit card’s interest rate?

Sarah asked:

I have a number of credit cards that I had to live on for a few months when I moved away to school. Now, I’ve got a job and have been trying to get rid of them and just live on my paychecks. I had planned on becoming “debt free” (excluding student loans) within 3-4 years.

Or not.

One of my credit cards (Chase) was over-drawn. I did not realize this for some time, as I never used the card and my father had agreed to pay for it. The initial limit was 2,500 dollars. Last month, it was overdawn to about ~2,600 dollars. This month, it’s overdrawn to ~2,818 dollars. The jump? The credit card is now charging me %29.99 interest.

There is no way in hell I can handle that. At all. Period. I have enough income to pay off my bills — rent, utilities and phone, food, gas, car note, and just enough to keep up with my “get out of debt” plan — until this thing came along. But how can I head off this debt if Chase is tacking on exponentially hundreds of dollars EVERY month? This is more than my entire income!!!

My parents can’t help, and I’d prefer to get them out of my financial business altogether (I have a deliquency on my credit report where my mother signed up for a card under MY name and then no one paid the bills — until I discovered it six months later). I went to the bank, but they won’t help because my credit is bad because I have an overdrawn card!!! X.x And I really do not want to turn to bankruptcy; I mean, damn. I’m not even out of my first year of college yet, and I’m already taking a dump on the rest of my financial life. :/

Anyway, I need SERIOUS help here. (I have over 5k in debt, not including student loans, which tack on several more thousand)
In response to some answers: I think you’re right and I may just be panicing… I don’t have the cash to pay off the overage, though. However, I recently discovered (since posting this) that my father hasn’t paid the card in eight months even though he tells me he has. So, either Chase has not been crediting my account, or I’m being lied to, but while my parents have some spending issues, they’ve never lied to me like this before… so I have to wonder where all that money’s been going. :/

should a teen be given a credit card?

Kayyy Bee :) asked:

i admit… i am spoiled.
i am going off to college next yr and need to know how to manage my money between gas, food, and entertainment (clothes etc.)
i can just go up to my mom and be like “i need money” and she would just give it to me. or i could say something like “i am going to the mall” and she will give me money.
i am not gonna lie. i like getting “free” money. but i seriously need to learn the “value of a dollar” so to say.
so i told my mom this and asked if i could have a credit card. and she said no.
on the other hand. my dad is the one who is trying to teach me to use money wisely. (but lately has been easing up some… unfortunately) and he was going to get me checks to use. the only problem is that nobody uses checks anymore for the stuff i would use it for. (nails, clothes, etc)
and my dad pays for my gas but i feel that if i am given a limit to use on a credit card per month that i can pay for both my gas and other stuff. that way i will learn something about money
i am responsible. i get really good grades in school. etc.
do you think i should/shouldnt be given a credit card?
if you think i should then how can i convince my parents.
if you think i shouldnt. why?
thank you :)
i cant get a job right now.
(besides that my mom doesnt exactly support my idea of getting a job for some odd reason)
but i have college level classes. and i am involved in after school activities that keep me busy until 5pm everday. and after that i am doing homework until 12am if i am lucky.

and i didnt really mean credit card so to say. idk what they are called but you put a certain amount on the card (sort of like a gift card) and when your out you are out until you put more on it. idk my friend has one. i just dont know what it is called.
