Are you joining the gas boycott?

jh asked:

There is a boycott of Exxon and Shell Gas stations going on. It makes sense to. If you don’t buy from the two largest oil companies, they will have to reduces their prices which would reduce everyone else’s prices and you don’t even have to stop buying gas to join the boycott, just don’t buy there. I’m a Speedway SuperAmerica fan anyway. I’ve cashed in enough points over the past couple years to get 4-$100 gift cards and all kinds of free coffee and cold drinks. I think Speedway is owned by Marathon and sells Marathon gasoline.

You really have no clue, but thats Ok,if it makes you feel good.
(one thing to think about) Since their has been no new refineries built since the seventies,Where do you think youyr ‘Marathon Gasoline gets refined?(another) is no matter who sells you gasoline, the price is affected by the nations in OPEC,and its the price per barrel of oil, that dictates the price of gasoline, not who sells it,and since we dont allow drilling of our own oil,we are dependant upon other nations for fuel(and their prices)

According to, gas boycotts are not effective. The smaller station will simply run out of oil and purchase more from the bigger guys–Exxon and Shell.

gas prices don’t hurt me. i may have to drive a toyota, but i get almost 30 miles to the gallon. you SUV-whores deserve the pain at the pump.

  5. Wonkatonka Says:

Oh, the naivety. It will have no effect. There price of gasoline is not set arbitrarily. Shell and Exxon have more production costs than the bargain priced gas companies, but their profit margin is roughly the same. BTW, fuel taxes are three times what oil companies profit, and the government doesn’t incur any of the costs.

I am thinking you must be from California. Am I correct?

  7. Hot Dog Says:

No but I’ll watch if that OK with you.

All the Speedways I’ve seen looked like they couldn’t pass the health board inspection and they got lousy mustard.

Why are you not boycotting Citgo. It is Venezuelan oil. The leader of that country has referred to our President as Satan and has openly professed his hatred of America. Now that is one gas company I will boycott. I will push my truck down the road before I will ever buy a drop of Citgo gas.

BOYCOTTS ARE DESPERATELY NEED TODAY! ACTION, NOT WORDS. VOTES ARE DAMN NEAR USELESS. FOR WHICH STOOGE WILL YOU VOTE?

Action must be taken. Things like boycotts, sick outs, we must now get reform by any means necessary!

It has been done before. You must have the courage of your ancestors. Enough is enough. Lets remember that they are a small group of ruling elitists and corp greedy hogs. It is good to give them a nudge or a might whack across their skulls. Still, don’t hold high expectations for instant success. But the more we boycott gas and other things the more united and effective it will be.We can disagree on so many things but on this we can have absolute unity and gain the necessary power to stop these elitists and hogs.

Do anything you can think of to boycott our evil congress and corporations.

We must reform this system very quickly. Next November won’t do. I heard that there is actually a Reform Party being formed online at some site. By reform we mean we have a platform that wants and defines what we now demand. We don’t have agree for the moment but on this one point. The Democrats and GOP cannot be trusted. Never go to sleep another night pretending they are on your side.

The are just lying faces who stab you in the back once you hand them the keys to the office. Hard to throw them out. The law works for them to stay in and keep destroying the fabric of society and running up debt. The law works against you once they have the power. Do not give these stooges the power.

With gas boycotts, and other things we can build networks and communication systems to decide on each and every point. we can network and we can focus on pinpoint targets. today a walmart in south carolina and tomorrow at the bp stations in california. we will have a general strategy and a list of tactics and we will refine that and become strong. we can make it happen. we can turn the u.s. congress around and we can make all corporations scream “uncle” quickly if we gain unity and solidarity. so many examples where that has worked elsewhere. we don’t have to re-invent the wheel. do something to make a difference.

i think it was nathan hale who said, “we must hang together or we will hang one by one.” of course he was talking about king george, hey, we are talking about the same sort of rotten taxation and corruption today. just a different set of masters. huh?

lets set up as schedule to do various boycotts. if one works, others will work. we must find a way to get this sorry government off the bubble. we must fine and imprison corporate execs and greedy business rogues like was done with enron. not nearly enough change not nearly enough justice and reform. brace up and be prepared to suffer through this. they will, count on it, strike back with layoffs and forclosures and a multitude of other things. we outnumber them by the millions and the cannot win if we hang together and reform our government. not next year, nor the year after that but now. forget the remaining three stooges up for the presidency. by this time you should realize that larry, curly and moe will not improve your life. you cannot trust them or the us congress. you must trust yourself and those immediately around you. people that you know who will stand up with you – and me. we only have to agree on one thing, liberal or conservative – that one thing is reform now! votes won’t matter with action. your vote just doesn’t mean diddly now. only your actions to demand reform. but now not next november. it must come now. the time has come, enough is enough.

I think the way things are going, consumer actions like these – might sound good, but they kind of stem from a mis-understanding of the situation , to an extent.

Certainly it would be wonderful if Exxon or Shell or whomever, were just gouging the marketplace hand over fist – and to some extent I’m sure they are, but it completely omits the two real drivers for the cost of gasoline.

    1. DEMAND – China – recently exceeded the United States (historically the largest consumer of oil), in mid 2007, they use 14.2million barrels each day, to our 14.0 million barrels per day, for the average person, thats about 220,000,000 gallons of gasoline – every day in both countries.

The EU and other countries are fast approaching the usage of the our two nations, but are not increasing usage as much.

India uses significantly less, and Japan , the most advanced of the nations mentioned above, has used 6million barrels per day, since their politicians got serious about oil – back in the day (1973).

    2. SUPPLY! – well, as fun as the demand side of the problem is, the demand side is not looking particularly healthy. In a nutshell, the availability of the best (most easily refined) oil peaked in about 2005 or so, so while demand is still increasing, (at about 2% per year), we do not have new supplies to take the place of those areas of the world (such as the North Sea) that are declining in productivity. This means that we have to start refining and using less desirable grades of oil (oil shales, tars and such), while there are alot of these resources available, they are MUCH more expensive to refine and deliver.

As they say – the proof is in the pudding, Exxon, flush with record earnings has also had an explosion in the overall costs for exploration, looking high and low for new oil fields, and looking to make old fields more productive, this amazing amount of exploration and research to wring the last drop from older wells, is an effort matched only by the failure to actually turn up new reserves of the easy to get stuff, giving most folks – even in the industry pause, those who figured that putting more resources into exploration would surely net larger finds, instead coming up empty.

The only way to stop the high gas prices and to stop them going any higher is to stop the Iraq war! The war is burning up ton’s of gallons of gas a day! Opec wants the USA out of Iraq and so does Iran, if the USA don’t get out of Iraq the prices of oil and gas will just keep climbing! Plain and Simple!

Opec proudly announced there 3 rd quarter profits of 4.3 billion dollars! That’s more then what they made in 2004 for the whole year!!! They are laughing all the way to the bank! The only way to fight against Opec is to not buy it at all!!! Find Better Ways to get around, besides a car all the time! China lived for 100’s of years without cars! The American people can too! If they quit being so lazy! 98% of the American people think Driving is the only way around! Or just to dam lazy to try other means! Well I say fine, then don’t have a missy fit when it gets to 5-6-7-8 dollars a gallon! Just keep your mouth shut and pay for it !

That’s all it’s been for the last 2 years is people complaining about gas prices! Well quit the complaining and fight back, don’t buy the gas! Not being able to drive your cars, SUV’s, Trucks is not the end of the world! Buy mopeds, scooters, bikes, ride buses, buy a bus for the neighborhood and have a ride share system with a bus! All you need is a bus license! If people would just quit the complaining and take actions that would help in not using gas so much, it will get Opec right at there own bank accounts!

Many say gas stations aren’t in on the gas hikes, well if you believe that, you’ll believe the sky is falling too! Gas station owners are getting just as rich at all our expenses! You want to get even with gas stations for there part in the gas hikes, don’t buy nothing more then gas, that will hit them in there pocket books real fast! They count on people buying stuff in the station, don’t buy anything else but gas!

No sense in getting angry over it all, get even! Sacrifices will be the winner out ahead of Opec! And gas stations owners! Be a proud American, show your pride! declare war on all foreign products, so Opec will look like the bad guy! There’s no laws stating you have to purchase any foreign products or gas! Period!

If we all would just fight together and show foreign countries that we are the power of the United States and no foreign business will ever take that away from us with there stupid products! Just stand up, be a proud American and boycott all foreign products to let Opec know they just opened a can of very rotten tomatoes! And that the American people have been shoved and pushed around long enough and were all going to show all foreign countries, that you want to mess with the American people, you will pay dearly for it!

Complaining never cures anything, actions speak louder then words! Let the greedy foreign oil companies drowned in there own oil! American people are dependant on oil and gas like a drug head is to drugs! But the dependant can be changed, just like a drug head can be cured of drugs! You just have to be willing and ready to finally fight the addiction!

Could you imagine how much money Opec would lose if American was gas and oil free from use! Opec would have wished they had shown a little more respect to the United states! And they’d be begging us to buy there oil at about 10 bucks a barrel!

SUPERAMERICA DOES NOT PRODUCE OIL… It on actuality, it probably fills up with Exxon/Mobil or Shell gasoline.

Gas stations not franchised by big oil companies, purchase gasoline from them. Just because you go to a mom and pop station, it doesnt mean they dont get gasoline from Exxon, Shell, BP, Chevron.

The franchise you purchase from have nothing to do with what company the gas comes from… Therefor, station boycotts dont work.
