I often apply for cards just to get the perks (free gas card, statement credit, extra miles, etc.) and then cancel them right after I get my perk.

Would you cry “foul” for this billing trick from your payment processor or credit card company?

John S. asked:

I have a gas card that uses a 2nd party payment processor for electronic payments on-line. When you sign up to view your bill on-line, they do something automatically that most other credit card companies and billers give you as an explicit option. That is most billers ASK you if you want to receive your bill payment notices by email vs. regular mail.

This gas card company however just ASSUMES this is what you choose if you so much as ATTEMPT to see the details of your bill on-line. In other words, they won’t let you see on-line what’s happening with your charges unless you let them stop sending you paper bills. But they don’t even ask you. They ASSUME it and tell you it is posted somewhere as one of their policies, but they never tell you, “For the privilege of viewing your bill on-line over our precious website, you now agree to never again receive a paper bill from us in the mail. You MUST now accept only e-bills by email so we don’t have to spend our money on paper, ink, and postage to service your account.”

Is this illegal? Or is it just slimy and cheap?

I looked at my bill on-line once and didn’t realize in their fine print that this now freed them from having to send me a paper bill in the mail. Then they changed their payment terms and shortened the due date by a week and proceeded to charge me a late payment when I didn’t see their e-bill to an old email account I hardly use.

Wouldn’t you be a little upset by this? Who can I talk to in government or consumer credit for some assistance to try to stop this kind of chicanery by electronic billers and credit card companies?

What is so hard about paying off your credit card balance every month?

coronakidcacher asked:

I never understand why people think using credit cards is the sure fire way to go into debt. I’ve been using credit cards now for over 20 years and I have always made sure to pay off the balance every month. Not only is it very convenient, but I get tons of free perks as well. I get 5% off of my gas, 3% off at all restaurants, free rewards, etc. I pay for EVERYTHING via credit card. I love the fact that fast food places are now accepting credit cards as well.

I also want to personally thank all the irresponsible folks that carry credit card balances. I wouldn’t get all the free perks I do if it wasn’t for you. Thanks!
What a bunch of whiners. I’ve lost many a job over the years but I STILL have enough money in the bank to pay off my credit cards. It’s called an emergency fund. Ever heard of it? I’m not saying there aren’t exceptions to the rule. I sympathize with people who go into debt for medical reasons and other dire situations but that’s the exception.

Which areoplan rewards credit card would you get?

jay asked:

I’m looking into getting a airmiles rewards credit card. Right now I only have the free one which gives you 1 measly reward per $20 you spend. I’m single so I wouldn’t use the card as much as someone with a family would. These are the options I’m looking at…which would you get?

1. Visa Aero Classic 1mile per $2 spent at an annual fee of $29.

2. Visa Aero Gold 1mile per $1 spent, and 1.5miles per dollar spent at a grocery, gas, or drug store. Annual feel of $120.

or

3. MNBA card 1mile per $1. Annual fee of $89

Visa Gold looks great to me, but the annual fee is high especially since I am single. Not sure how widely accepted MNBA is???
oops…I mean MBNA :)

Making your Money make Sense.how do you do it?

Mr. Prediction asked:

I’m not rich and I have lot’s to learn but this is what has worked for me. I’m 3 years out of college, I’ve paid back on my student loans, I worked through school whiched helped. I bought a house 2 years ago and have it 74% paid-off. I bought during the low market, I put down 35% and make double & triple payments torwards the principle. I make a moderate income and take home $3250 every two weeks. I max-out all my rewards credit-cards and have even asked to put some business expences on them and as a result I get free gas cards for my car…I haven’t paid for gas in 2 years FREE!! I also have a Cruise rewards card that will be cashed in in April 08..and a free flight there via Amex rewards (American Air-
lines). I’ve never paid a red cent in interest…I just use the credit card companies for free things and always pay in full. I currently have $840 per Month coming in on just investments & interest..pay’s my utilities and food at home.

just a few things that might help you

ques
One other thing that’s drains your money. NEVER buy a new car…always buy the car when it’s 2 years old and pay cash..NEVER finance a car…a car is an ego item that it’s only funtion is to get you to point A to B…if you want a flashy car…enjoy it ******* you dry $$$. If you can’t pay for it in cash…then you can’t afford it…stay with this principle and you’ll be amazed how much you save
Joan……….LOL…YEs I’m for real…what do you mean? If you have a question I’ll answer you back.
