Possible Telephone Scam?
I got a call a couple days ago from a blocked number. First, the lady told me that I am eligible for a free $50 gas card if I look over some sort of points-for-purchases deal for my credit card, and spent about 6 minutes talking about both the deals. Then she transferred me to a guy that said he just needs to confirm my card.
The guy asked me to confirm that I have a VISA credit card with the last 4 digits of ****, and I said yes. The digits were right. Then he asked me if I live at an address, and I said yes. The address was right. Then he pretty much repeated everything the girl said, plus a bit more. He said I would be receiving a package in the mail, and that I would unconditionally get the gas card, whether I sign up for the rewards program or not.
When he was finished talking, I asked him if he could verify himself or his company. He told me his company name, but I can’t remember what it was, and I didn’t have a computer to check it. He referred me to the customer service dept, gave me a 1-800 number. I wrote it down, but never called. He explained that he works at a call center, and he only has my name, address, and last 4 digits of my card.
Does this sound like a scam? I didn’t give him any info, except for just saying “yes” when the info he gave me was correct. I never gave my full card number, nor the 3-digit code on the back of my card.
Can they get anything from my account with only the last 4 and my address? Or maybe, they just wanted to fatten me up for the kill, and when I receive the package they mentioned, it will ask me for my info, and they’ll get it that way. Should I call my bank? What should I do?
