Someone keeps calling me trying to get my personal information what do I do?

SadToday22 asked:

These 2 companies (they could be the same acctually) keep calling my cell phone and telling me that either a credit or debit card I have that ends in XXXX wants to reward me with a free gas card & cash. It’s a total scam because they keep asking for my husband too, but by his nickname, not his legal name and the the four XXXX #s are not on any of our credit cards. I know it’s a TOTAL SCAM but who and how do I report it? My caller ID gives me a phone # for one of them (who proptly hang up when I refuse to let them speak to my husband) and the other comes up on my caller ID as 0000000000. I did call my cell phone provider and they stated the cannot trace it. How do I report this?

I would guess that your state’s Attorney General’s office may be able to direct you to the right place.

Put yourself on the national do not call list. When they call back tell them that you are on the do not call list and to remove you from theirs. If they keep harrassing you then I would contact the do not call list and ask them how to handle it

  10. Sk8tergurl Says:

you can register your phone # with the national do not call site.

you can list cell and home #’s
If someone calls and tries to solicits you can get there # and turn them in.

Do what I do to telemarketers. Ask them to repeat themselves over and over again. See how many times they’ll repeat everything before they get frustrated and hang up. I’m up to 13 times!

Next time they call in a real creepy voice say “I know where you live and ive seen where you sleep and god as my witness if you call me down you will pay” or when they call ask for a supervisor and tell them that the calls have to stop or you’ll contact the better business burro.

Give me your maiden name, date of birth, and social security number and I’ll handle it for you.

Just kidding! Call your local law enforcement agency. Give them the phone number you do know. Or you could post the number here and we can ALL start calling them for you and telling them to lay off. Can you imagine if they got several hundred calls from Yahoo Answer folks from all over the world telling them to leave you alone? I had some fun with a telemarketer the other day. They called me at work and started trying to sell me life insurance. I told them I wasn’t well and they would be wiser not to sell me life insurance. They persisted so I told them I was terminal and the doctor had only given me 6 months to live. This telemarketer still wouldn’t give up so I made a gurgling sound and gasped for air then dropped the phone. I left it laying on the desk for about 3 minutes before they finaly hung up. I thought to myself, “now THAT is one persistant salesperson. I wish they worked for me.”

Your best bet is to contact the Attorney Generals Office in your area. They have the ability and authority to trace or request back logs on a cell phone. Whoever told you the calls cant be traced are lazy. Especially now that this country is in war cell phones are monitored quite efficiently. If this doesn’t work let them speak to your husband and have him tell them you are represented by an attorney and all calls have to stop or legal action will take place. Make it a point to tell them the call has been traced and is being given to your local authorities. Even if you don’t do any of this and you say this to them they probably aren’t dumb enough to bother you any more.

Whenever I hear something like this I always think how much fun it would be to spoof them by giving them a bunch of bogus information. Then they can waste their time trying to use the bogus information and hopefully get themselves in trouble.

Just write out your information ahead of time and have it handy. Give him ALL the misinformation you can. Include your false soc.#, false credit card numbers, false bank account numbers, false address. (btw, make the soc believable, use 278 for the first 3 numbers.)

Have fun. The caller derserves it.

  18. Wizzard2 Says:

    just hang up

  19. El_Nimo Says:

Telemarkerters aren’t allowed to call cell phones because you have to pay for it.

Politely tell them it’s a cell phone and you’re not interested and do not call you back.

Another thing is just don’t answer.
