Where is a good place to put business cards for a plumbing & heating business?
Jess asked:
My boyfriend is just starting out in the plumbing, heating and gas fitting industry and he’s trying to get his name out there. Any good suggestions on places for him to put his business cards? Or any free online advertising anyone knows of?

Craigs list may be good. Also alot of grocery stores have boards that you can put business cards on. If he goes to a barber shop they also may have a bulletin board you can put a business card. I would also check local newspapers you may be able to advertise for between 5 and 10 dollars. Wal-Mart may have a bulletin board as well, you may just want to call a few stores and ask.

Local senior center & offer a senior discount. If you attend church that is also a great source.
Sit down and make a list of everyone you know…mom, dad, uncle, dentist, doctor, old teachers, etc. Then, talk to them and give them cards and ask them to tell everyone they know.
Once he does some jobs ask satisfied customers for a comment (make up comment cards like they have in restaurants) put them in a nice notebook/album and use them as references etc.
Besides business cards, he needs professional estimate forms, contracts, stationary etc. Get a magnetic sign for the side of his truck (Fastsigns does them cheaply.) On the weekends part the truck in different parking lots (mall, Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc.). (Make sure it’s clean too.)
Local paper runs little ads for $20 a week. Well worth it!

I don’t believe in placing business cards on public boards because of many reasons, such as: They are too small, people throw them away in order to place theirs instead, an so on. You better use flayers or post cards or invitations instead. They are bigger and more noticeable. If you insist on business cards then spread them manually and personally. One more way – order business cards magnets and attach them to any metallic surface. It works! To complete the picture – order Business cards stickers and attach them wherever magnets don’t hold.
